Pediatric Neuropsychological Assessment

In the role of Neuropsychologist, Dr. Barowsky specializes in creating personalized evaluations to highlight each child/adolescent's cognitive, academic, and social-emotional profile. Assessments aim to identify areas of strength and those in need of support, laying the groundwork for effective treatment and intervention plans. Clients typically range from ages 6 to 25. Evaluations are comprehensive, potentially including assessments of cognitive skills, academic abilities, language, memory, attention, executive functions, daily adaptive skills, and emotional and behavioral health, depending on referral questions. With a nuanced understanding of an individual’s strengths and areas for growth, detailed recommendations to support continued development are provided.

Dr. Barowsky practices and evaluates through a neuroaffirmative lens, recognizing and respecting neurological diversity rather than viewing differences as deficits. This approach emphasizes understanding each individual’s unique way of thinking, learning, and engaging with the world to promote genuine well-being and self-acceptance.

Typical referrals are made to examine the following presentations and situations:

  • Learning profiles and differences

  • Developmental variations and delays

  • Attentional and/or impulse regulation differences

  • Executive functioning challenges

  • Social, emotional and behavioral differences

  • Clarifying the need for testing accommodations

  • Consideration for Gifted & Talented or twice-exceptional (2e) profiles

  • Concussion, traumatic brain injury or other medical conditions
